Black Rainbow is Australia’s first and only National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Trans* and Intersex (LGBQTI) Suicide Prevention National Advocacy Platform and National Touchpoint. We support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBQTI people who are homeless, leaving domestic violence relationships or the justice system. We are 100% Indigenous owned and operated.
We are a not for profit social enterprise set up to identify and address social and cultural determinants of health as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians whom identify as LGBQTI. Black Rainbow is not a registered charity. We believe the governance structure expected of a registered charity to be restrictive in achieving our goals.
At Black Rainbow, we believe that identifying and addressing the social determinants of health is central to improving Indigenous Australian LGBQTI health outcomes. This includes LGBQTI-phobia and racism. We believe in that by doing so, to be a significance contribution toward preventing suicide and non-suicidal self-harm.
One of the pillars of Black Rainbow is the philosophy of value-based economics1 and as such a synergy of values with our partners is fundamental to our success. To partner with us please use the contact page here.
